One-of-a-Kind Handmade Journaling Card
This handmade mixed media journaling card features a vintage illustration of The Red Queen’s Race, a scene inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass, the sequel to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
The illustration came from a vintage copy of 10,000 Dreams Interpreted, where the image appeared in an entirely different context. I removed the original book page and incorporated the illustration into this one-of-a-kind piece of usable art.
The Red Queen’s Race is one of the most memorable moments from Through the Looking-Glass. Alice finds herself running alongside the Red Queen, only to discover that no matter how fast they run, they remain in the same place—a wonderfully strange bit of Wonderland logic that later inspired the term “Red Queen effect.”
With its unusual literary history, vintage book imagery, and whimsical feel, this card would make a unique addition to a junk journal, altered book, or literary-themed collection.
